About The Book

Theory of machines by RS Khurmi is excellent book for practicing problem-solving with adequate theory combined with problems, worked examples, exercise problems at the end of each chapter, complete coverage of syllabus of all Indian universities. The book is also a great help for GATE examinations. The book is a textbook for B.E., U.P.S.E. (ENGG.SERVICES): SECTION ‘B’ of A.M.I.E. (I).

The text book is broadly used by students to understand definitions and problems that are solved using basic methods. The book covers the entire syllabus in a very nice manner. The contents such as the Kinematics of Motion, Kinetics of Motion, Simple Harmonic Motion, Simple Mechanisms, Velocity in Mechanisms (Instantaneous Centre Method), Velocity in Mechanisms (Relative Velocity Method), Acceleration in Mechanisms, Mechanisms with Lower Pairs, Friction, Belt, Rope and Chain Drives, Toothed Wheels, Gear Trains, Gyroscopic Couple and Processional Motion, Inertia Forces in Reciprocation Parts, Turning Moment Diagrams and Flywheel, Steam Engine Valves and Reversing Gears, Governors, Brakes and Dynamometers, Cams, Balancing of Rotating Masses, Balancing of Reciprocating Masses, Longitudinal and Transverse Vibrations, Torsional Vibrations, Computer Aided Analysis and Synthesis of Mechanisms and Automatic Control. It covers all the basics for this third semester course as well.

About Author

R.S.Khurmi was born on 29 Aug 1939 in Sunam, a small town in Punjab. He completed his schooling in Sunam and then he completed his professional studies from Phagwara and Delhi. He started his career in Punjab Irrigation Department as an Engineer. After guidance from Professor Das of Chandigarh Engineering College, Dr. Khurmi came to Delhi and took up Teaching and Writing Engineering Text Books as a full time career. According to the survey of UNESCO, he is the leading and No. 1 author of engineering textbooks in Asia.
