Simplified Mechanics and Strength of Materials (Parker/Ambrose Series of Simplified Design Guides) (English) written by James E.Ambrose was first published by john W@P and Sons. James Ambrose, a Formerly Professor of Architecture University of Southern California Los Angeles, California. The fundamental materials presented here derive from two general areas of study. The first area is that of applied mechanics, and most principally, applications of the field of statics. This study deals primarily with the nature of forces and their effects when applied to objects. The second area of study is that of strength of materials, which deals generally with the behavior of particular forms of objects, of specific structural materials, when subjected to actions of forces. For highly motivated readers, this book may function as a self-study reference. Its more practical application, however, is as a text for a course in which case readers will have the advantage of guidance, prodding, and counsel from a teacher. While the work here is mostly quite theoretical in nature, some use of data and criteria derived from sources of real materials and products is necessary.

Requiring little in the way of mathematic ability, but providing much information, this guide shows readers how they can understand and predict how a building and its materials will perform when exposed to a variety of external forces (mechanics). New information in this edition includes an analysis of indeterminate structures and the ultimate strength resistance of those structures. A greater emphasis is also placed on the fundamentals, providing professionals with simple concise solutions to common structural problems. Updated code and technology information is included, as are many more illustrations, and a wealth of problems and answers for self-study.
